Road Trip to Kyoto!

Our first road trip in Japan! We went to Kyoto over a long holiday weekend! This post features our road trip, our dinner, and the Kimono Forest.

Philip made sure we "saw" the ocean en route, but yeah, that was a bust! There was nothing to see, hahaha!

It was quite the wet day as we drove to Kyoto.

We saw Spa Land on the way.  Something to check out in the future.

Driving into a tunnel here can literally be like driving into a mountain! Some of the tunnels are so long!

We made it! This is where we ate dinner.  We had tonkatsu (pork cutlet).

They even gave us directions on how to eat it! There were three different sauce bottles, regular sweet and tangy sauce, a little bit spicy version, and a citrusy salad dressing.

We ground up our own sesame seeds to eat with the katsu sauce.

Yum! C and G didn't want their sesame seeds, so we gladly took them and tried both sauces.  The citrus dressing so so good! Not pictured: miso soup.

I love how Japan does everything seasonally!

After dinner, we went to the Kimono Forest.  We were pleasantly surprised to see that there was a Lego miniature in the train station!

In the evening when it's not busy, it's just the one train car.

When the train stopped, it made a put put noise!

Into the forest! It was just a small area surrounding the station. It was quite cool to see right as we pulled in.

Make a wish!

Beautiful colors!

We ALMOST had the whole train car to ourselves!

We fit about a whole week into one day on a Saturday, so I will be making individual posts for each activity of the rest of our trip.  We went to a monkey park, rode rickshaws into the bamboo forest, did the Ninja and Samurai Museum, and Philip and I went by ourselves up a bajillion steps at a shrine!
